August Developments

Summer may be almost over, but developments are still taking place across the park. The camera has for Odyssey’s on ride photographs has been moved to the bottom of the sidewinder, meaning that souvenir photos can once again be purchased from the kiosk which was once the control booth for Absolutely Insane. Rhombus’ Rocket now also features on ride photography, as well as the log flume. In other news, the golf course, which opened in 2009, has recently been removed. The area, which lies besides the Grand Prix Go Karts in the market, has now been developed into a seating area. The park have also launched a new design for the official website; just six months after redesigning the site at the beginning of the season.

Rollercoasters Ready to Roll?

Despite Fantasy Island announcing that Odyssey and Millennium would open today reports indicate that both failed to open. The train for Millennium is on track, but the Odyssey restraints were still being fitted. Fantasy Mouse, Amazing Confusion, the flume, Rhombus Rocket, Elephant Ride and Monkey Jump also remained closed.

If you’re visiting the park, we recommend calling Fantasy Island for advice before you visit on 01754 615 860.

Rocky Start to the Season

Rocky Start to the Season

Fantasy Island is now open every day, but despite the park confirming that all rides would be available by April 3rd, some rides still remain closed. Whilst neither of the trains for Millennium Roller Coaster or Jubilee Odyssey has yet been reinstated onto the tracks, some more progress has been made around the park. Amazing Confusion is currently in the process of being reconstructed, since the ride was almost completely deconstructed last year for parts to be sent away to Mondial to be repaired .

It also appears that the park are continuing their effort to spread out the children’s rides, as the base for the Elephant ride has been moved next to Amazing Confusion.

Other cosmetic improvements have been made around the park, with the wall for the Jellikins roller coaster has been removed and the floor of the Seaquarium is looking much cleaner. The log flume also remains unavailable whilst maintenance work is being carried out.

The park have not yet announced when all rides will be open, and with Easter just a few weeks away it looks like the park have their work cut out to get everything ready for one of the busiest times of the year.

Jubilee Odyssey and Volcanic Impact Reopen – Fantasy Island

May 23, 2009

Jubilee Odyssey and Volcanic Impact Reopen for 2009

Despite set backs for two of the white knuckle thrill rides at Fantasy Island, Jubilee Odyssey and Volcanic Impact have reopened today for the first time in the 2009 season. Since testing very early in the year, Jubilee Odyssey stalled on its cobra roll inversion in March this year. More problems developed soon after as the lift hill motor needed replacing, causing several more weeks of downtime whilst the parts were being delivered from Vekoma.

Nonetheless, Absolutely Insane and Amazing Confusion remain closed. After shearing a drive pin last month, more problems were identified, leaving the ride awaiting more parts to be delivered from Mondial.

Odyssey Update: Lift Hill Motor

Jubilee Odyssey’s still yet to reopen for the 2009 season. A number of problems have developed since testing in March, including stalling on the cobra roll, and the lift hill motor breaking soon after. The latter required the lift hill motor to be sent back to Vekoma, as parts aren’t readily available in this country, and is due back on Wednesday. Unfortunately, this means that the ride will remain closed over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend, with a glimmer of hope of reopening on the 9th May.

In related news, Volcanic Impact and Absolutely Insane are expected to reopen for the Spring half term.

Most Thrill Rides Remain Closed

Most Thrill Rides Remain Closed

It’s almost a month into the new season, yet most of the park’s thrill rides are yet to open. As a result of Odyssey stalling during testing, the wheels on the train were replaced. Since then, there have been issues with the lift hill motor. Similarly, Volcanic Impact and Absolutely Insane are awaiting inspection from S&S before they can reopen, although reports from the park suggest that the cables have been replaced on Absolutely Insane, and new safety beacons have been spotted atop two of the towers. Amazing Confusion has also been subject to downtime as it sheared a drive pin, the decision was made to replace all twenty. Unfortunately, it looks as though these rides could remain closed for some time as the park are working with the ride manufacturers in an attempt to get them reopen as soon as possible.

Wristbands & Odyssey Ready for Easter

Wristbands & Odyssey Ready for Easter

From this Saturday, Fantasy Island will now begin opening on a daily basis throughout the main season. The wristband system is all ready to go as planned, offering guests discounts for unlimited rides. Tokens will no longer be sold, but replaced instead with ‘live tickets’ which can be topped up as a pay per ride solution.

Jubilee Odyssey stalled on the cobra roll element, only two weeks ago. The park have confirmed that they winched the train backwards, and removed the train manually from the bottom of the loop. The train has since been reassembled and tested, but is now being fitted with new wheels. Hopefully, it will be ready to reopen over the Easter weekend.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the park’s S&S rides, Absolutely Insane and Volcanic Impact, which will remain closed as they are still awaiting inspection from their American ride manufacturers. All other rides on park are expected to be operating this weekend though, but remember to check out our helpful trip planning pages before you visit.

Jubilee Odyssey Stalls During Testing 2009

March 20, 2009

Jubilee Odyssey - Stalls

Island Quest has learned that Jubilee Odyssey, the UK’s tallest SLC and the parks main attraction, has stalled.

It appears that the ride has stalled on the cobra roll. The park have told us that the maintenance team are in the process of retrieving the train as well as finding out the cause. Despite this, the park remain confident that the ride will reopen for Easter.
