Volcanic Impact Reopens

Volcanic Impact has recently reopened. The S&S Space Shot had been standing but not operating since the end of last year; whilst awaiting replacement parts. Fantasy Island reported in early July that parts were being fitted after “complications”. It’s unclear what these complications were, but the ride has since reopened for guests to enjoy the view from the top of the park’s tallest ride.

New Age Restrictions

New Age Restrictions

Fantasy Island have introduced new restrictions for riding some of their more intense thrill rides. Under the new rules, guests have to be at least 12 years old to ride BeastAmazing Confusion andVolcanic Impact. However, the age restriction is not a factor at other parks which operate identical rides and only enforce the height requirements. Due to this change, Fantasy Island have adjusted the age brackets for wristband pricing for adults and children. Under the new structure, anyone over the age of 12 will now be considered an adult.

Jubilee Odyssey and Volcanic Impact Reopen – Fantasy Island

May 23, 2009

Jubilee Odyssey and Volcanic Impact Reopen for 2009

Despite set backs for two of the white knuckle thrill rides at Fantasy Island, Jubilee Odyssey and Volcanic Impact have reopened today for the first time in the 2009 season. Since testing very early in the year, Jubilee Odyssey stalled on its cobra roll inversion in March this year. More problems developed soon after as the lift hill motor needed replacing, causing several more weeks of downtime whilst the parts were being delivered from Vekoma.

Nonetheless, Absolutely Insane and Amazing Confusion remain closed. After shearing a drive pin last month, more problems were identified, leaving the ride awaiting more parts to be delivered from Mondial.

Odyssey Update: Lift Hill Motor

Odyssey Update: Lift Hill Motor

Jubilee Odyssey’s still yet to reopen for the 2009 season. A number of problems have developed since testing in March, including stalling on the cobra roll, and the lift hill motor breaking soon after. The latter required the lift hill motor to be sent back to Vekoma, as parts aren’t readily available in this country, and is due back on Wednesday. Unfortunately, this means that the ride will remain closed over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend, with a glimmer of hope of reopening on the 9th May.

In related news, Volcanic Impact and Absolutely Insane are expected to reopen for the Spring half term.

Wristbands & Odyssey Ready for Easter

Wristbands & Odyssey Ready for Easter

From this Saturday, Fantasy Island will now begin opening on a daily basis throughout the main season. The wristband system is all ready to go as planned, offering guests discounts for unlimited rides. Tokens will no longer be sold, but replaced instead with ‘live tickets’ which can be topped up as a pay per ride solution.

Jubilee Odyssey stalled on the cobra roll element, only two weeks ago. The park have confirmed that they winched the train backwards, and removed the train manually from the bottom of the loop. The train has since been reassembled and tested, but is now being fitted with new wheels. Hopefully, it will be ready to reopen over the Easter weekend.

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the park’s S&S rides, Absolutely Insane and Volcanic Impact, which will remain closed as they are still awaiting inspection from their American ride manufacturers. All other rides on park are expected to be operating this weekend though, but remember to check out our helpful trip planning pages before you visit.

Park Preview Video

Park Preview Videos

On Friday 6th June, Park Preview took a trip to Fantasy Island with the intention of capturing on and off ride video from in and around the Fantasy Island resort. On ride footage from Jubilee Odyssey, Millennium Roller Coaster, Fantasy Mouse, Rhombus Rocket, Volcanic Impact and even Dragon Mountain Descent is featured in the video that reflects the vibrant atmosphere of the park. The experience of both Millennium and Odyssey was captured from both forward and backward perspectives, offering an intriguing insight into what it would be like to travel facing backwards on both of the parks major roller coasters. Ride ops also offered up the controls of Beast for them to control the ride themselves in manual mode. Unfortunately Absolutely Insane wasn’t open for their visit.

Cosmetic Improvements

Cosmetic Improvements

It’s a good few months into the park’s thirteenth season, time for an update.

Rides
Absolutely Insane hasn’t been in action so far this year, yet there are signs of life as the carriage is once again in place. This is a vast improvement over this time last year, when the carriage was still in pieces awaiting repair. Nevertheless, none of the safety beacons atop the towers, are working. New cables have also been sighted in the maintenance shed; the same issue that kept it from opening before July last year. However, it’s unconfirmed whether spare cables were simply stocked there. Both Millennium and Odyssey were both successfully operating throughout this past weekend, with near to full loads on trains. However, Odyssey had a few hiccups as it kept over riding in the station so that the restraint release mechanism wasn’t working. This was soon rectified after being closed for a short while.

Cosmetics
Cosmetic improvements have been noticed around the park recently. IQ forum member, Stig, reported late last season that Amazing Confusion was beginning to look faded, he also noted that Millennium’s supports were a bit ‘grubby’. Now, both rides have received a paint job. Whilst Amazing Confusion ‘looks as good as new’, Millennium’s supports have only been partially painted in bright red. Patches are still noticeable with only the grey undercoat on. Similarly, Volcanic Impact is noted to be adorning new flag poles after it was seen without any back in March.

Finally, buy one get one free vouchers for tokens are no longer featured in promotional leaflets or in the FunCoast brochure. Despite this, they are still available inside copies of the Skegness Standard.

Thanks to IQ forum member Martyn for the info.

Nothing New for Fantasy Island in 2006

Nothing New For Fantasy Island In 2006

We’ve got official word from the park, nothing new for 2006! This is the second season running in which the park have failed to provide any new attractions for park guests. The reason for this is unknown, however the most likely explanation seems that the park have simply run out of space.

The future does look bright however, as the park has cleared a huge sector of land next to the Beast; moving all kiddie rides to the front of Volcanic Impact in which the fashion show was based. The fashion show has now been relocated to the opposite side of Sea Lane.
