Planning Permisson for Market Extension - Refused

So, for the second time in a few years, Fantasy Island have been refused permisson to extend the outdoor market. The main reason given by the District Council is “the scale of the proposal
would be a significant addition to the existing out-of-centre market such that, along with all the other retail outlets along Sea Lane, it could begin to rival Skegness Town Centre as a retail destination”.

Which strikes me as being an odd decision, given that the District Council recently approved plans for an extension to the Skegness Tesco superstore?

Maybe it has something to do with work taking place on the extension before permisson was granted, last time around? Or continuing to operate the Market Tavern without permission? Who knows? But all we do know is that it ain’t happening, again.

Rocky Start to the Season

Fantasy Island is now open every day, but despite the park confirming that all rides would be available by April 3rd, some rides still remain closed. Whilst neither of the trains for Millennium Roller Coaster or Jubilee Odyssey has yet been reinstated onto the tracks, some more progress has been made around the park. Amazing Confusion is currently in the process of being reconstructed, since the ride was almost completely deconstructed last year for parts to be sent away to Mondial to be repaired .

It also appears that the park are continuing their effort to spread out the children’s rides, as the base for the Elephant ride has been moved next to Amazing Confusion.

Other cosmetic improvements have been made around the park, with the wall for the Jellikins roller coaster has been removed and the floor of the Seaquarium is looking much cleaner. The log flume also remains unavailable whilst maintenance work is being carried out.

The park have not yet announced when all rides will be open, and with Easter just a few weeks away it looks like the park have their work cut out to get everything ready for one of the busiest times of the year.

Pirate Merchandise

Last year the park immortalised their entertainers and dancers into a range of products including mousemats, coasters, mugs and t-shirts. Similar merchandise is now available but instead featuring the pirates and parrots that have been performing in the pyramid. Items are personalised with a photograph of themselves taken alongside the parrots inside the parrot zoo beside the lagoon stage. Head over to our forums to check out the rest of the merchandise for yourself.

The pirate show runs between 3 and 7pm daily with songs, dances, games and audience interaction. Parrots are on show between 3 and 5pm. There’s also a free bus to Friskney Parrot Zoo that departs from the Fantasy Island car park at 10am daily. Tickets can be reserved by speaking one of the zoo representatives.

Fantasy Island Plans

Island Quest has gained access of copys of plans for Fantasy Island.

Included within these plans are the blueprints for the planned ‘Hammerhead Coaster’ – A ride which was welcomed by all in the theme park community but was then pulled by the manufacturer Vekoma due to design and reliablity issues.

Also we exlusively reveal how the park has planning permission to build a proper car park on the site of the exiting overflow carpark (currently just a grass field).

To view these plans, as well as a general overview copy of the park masterplan visit our forum community, where you can also have your say. Simply check out the forum thread here.
